Purpose

The Faculty Teaching Load Policy is to clarify the weekly teaching load for faculty and also Academic Leaders (Chairs/Assoc. Chairs and Deans).

Statement :

o   A faculty teaching load is measured in terms of contact hours. A contact hour is the amount of time and effort required for one hour of direct contact with students in an instructional setting, such as a classroom or lab.

o   A faculty member’s teaching load for a semester shall be expressed as a certain number of contact hours per week.

o   Every instructional contact hour is counted as a credit hour and every 2 lab/studio hours is counted as one credit hour.

o   For University Level Colleges/Departments, any credit hour beyond the regular load is counted as an overload taking into account the overload policy and pre-approval procedures.

o   For PREP level courses any contact hour above the regular load is counted as an overload taking into account the overload policy and pre-approval procedures.

o   Academic Leaders are not allowed to have overload and if necessary to overload the Academic Leader, then only credit hours beyond the regular load for his/her academic rank will be compensated

The regular Faculty and Academic Leaders’ Teaching Load is as per the following :

 

1-  Faculty:

-       Preparatory Program Faculty…………… Teaching load 22 hours

-       Lab. Instructors………………………………… Teaching Load 22 hours

-       Lecturers …………………………………………. Teaching load 20 hours

-       Assistant Professors………………………….. Teaching load 16 hours

-       Associate Professors…………………………. Teaching load 14 hours

-       Full Professors…………………………………… Teaching load 12 hours

 

 2-  Academic Leaders:

-       Chairs/Associate Chairs……………………… Teaching load 9 hours

-       Deans…………………………………………………. Teaching load 6 hours
