PMU was represented at the “2008 International Petroleum Technology Conference” held in Kuala Lumpur, December 2-5, 2008. Dr. Zlatica Kraljevic, PMU Dean of Institutional Relations, co-moderated a Plenary Panel Session on “Complex Relations” between international oil companies, national oil companies and foreign governments. The panel included senior executives from ExxonMobil, PetroVietnam, PEMEX, the University of Texas at Austin, and the Indonesian Government Executive Agency for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (BPMIGAS). Co-moderator was Mr. Gene Coleman, Vice President, U.S. Operations of Murphy Oil E&P. The conference was sponsored by Petronas of Malaysia and ExxonMobil, and attracted over 4,500 participants from around the world.

PMU Rector, Dr. Issa Bin Hassan Al Ansari attended the Student Council meeting that took place on November 25, 2008. Many campus issues were discussed, including clubs, activities and Council Elections. Dr. Al Ansari encouraged the Council's suggestions, and mainly the project of Electronic Game Rooms for both campuses. He also approved the budget needed for the launching of the Clubs for the academic year 2008-2009.

The Division of Student Affairs, in coordination with the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, hosted the first PMU Speech and Essay Tournament on Tuesday, November 25 for the male students and Wednesday, November 26 for the female students. Students nominated by their instructors participated in the tournament. All participants were recognized for their efforts and the top essays and oral presentations were announced. This event is the start of a bi-annual tournament which will encourage the students to participate fully and take their oral and written skills seriously. It is also a fun event where the students can showcase their skills and encourage each other to succeed.

Dr. Uren, Director of the International Foundation Program at Leeds University visited PMU on November 26, 2008. Dr. Uren received information about PMU, its colleges and programs and discussed a number of collaboration opportunities.

A delegation from subsidiary companies to the Saudi American Business Council visited PMU on November 17, 2008. The delegation met with the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Dr. Nassar Sheikh along with a number of the university leaders, and learned about PMU’s academic and administrative programs, as well as its strategic partnerships with international universities and institutions. The two parties also discussed the possibility of concluding economic development partnership, and other agreements in the field of Training, Technology, and Human Resources.

The Minister of Higher Education Dr. Khaled Bin Mohammad Al Angari approved the new PMU Scientific Council. This Council is responsible for recommendations pertaining to the appointment and promotion of faculty members, in addition to scientific research, writing, translation, and publications.

PMU male students signed up for new clubs! Under the auspices of the Division of Students affairs- Department of Campus Life, and with the collaboration of the faculty members and the Student’s Council, PMU will open the following clubs for males for this semester: fencing, photography, karate, speech, chess, and press club. Clubs for female students will be launched shortly.

HRH Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd appointed Dr. Issa Al Ansari to chair the Supreme Committee for the Development on the Eastern Province. Congratulations to PMU Rector for such a valued trust.

The Saudi Arabian Business Council visited PMU campus on the 3rd of November 2008, to get acquainted with the university’s strategy and academic environment. The World’s Largest Student Organization AIESEC visited PMU on November 5, 2008. the delegation was welcomed by the Secretary General and Acting Director of the Quality Center- Dr. Yousif Suleiman, the Director of Student Affairs- Mr. Omar El Moussa, and the Director of Public Relations and Marketing- Mr. Abdul Rahman M. Abdul Ghani.

The Division of Student Affairs organized an all day barbecue event in the back entrance of the female campus on November 12, 2008. The event turned out to be a great success and reflected an active and lively campus life environment thanks to the efforts of the Student Affairs team.

The Division of Student Affairs on both male and female campuses gave informative student orientation sessions titled “Get Acquainted with PMU” to all prep and undergraduate students on November 16 and 17, 2008. The orientation shed the light on essential campus rules and regulations, students’ rights and responsibilities as well as the various services offered to students including advising and learning enrichment, library services, financial aid, career services, campus life and healthcare and counseling services.

LEXMARK, the leading developer, manufacturer and supplier of printing and imaging solutions for offices and homes visited the Division of Student Affairs at PMU, on November 18, 2008. Topics discussed: supporting the implementation of PMU Environmental Club, the possibility of Graduate Scholarship abroad and part time jobs opportunities, as well as the invitation of Guest speakers.An official singing ceremony will be held at PMU in the presence of LEXMARK officials and PMU Rector.

PMU was represented at the “4th Annual Women’s Global Leadership Conference in Energy and Technology,” held in Houston Texas, USA on November 13-14, 2008. Dr. Zlatica Kraljevic, PMU Dean of Institutional Relations, was invited as a speaker and moderator at the Opening Plenary Panel Session on “Climate Change and How it May Affect Global Industries.” Panelists included senior researchers at U.S. universities, and senior executives at Shell Oil and CenterPoint Energy Company. The conference was sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers and Gulf Publishing and attracted near 1,000 female participants. Dr. Kraljevic is also a distinguished member of the advisory board of the Womens’ Global Leadership Conference in Energy & Technology.

MSM attended PMU’s opening ceremony on October 8, 2008. MSM was represented by its Managing Director Mr. Klaas Van Mierlo.

The Jubail Industrial College (JIC) visited PMU on October 28, 2008.

The Dutch Minister of Economy and the Dutch Ambassador visited PMU on October 15, 2008.

The Dutch Minister of Economy visited HRH Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd, and put forward a technological cooperation proposal before the Chamber of Commerce of the Eastern Province.

Under the patronage of HRH Crown Prince Sultan Bin Abdul-Aziz, PMU Inauguration Ceremony was held on October 8, and was a great success! Congratulations to all PMU Staff, Faculty and Students!

EMBA classes started on October 9, for the Fall Semester 2008/2009. Along with the returning students, PMU also welcomed the new EMBA coordinator. Preparations underway for the next intake, scheduled in February 2009.

Under the patronage of Crown Prince Sultan Bin Abdul-Aziz, PMU Inauguration Ceremony will be held on October 8, 2008. For this purpose, PMU has mobilized all possible resources and task forces to prepare for the event.

PMU First University Council meeting took place on Sunday May 4, 2008 chaired by Dr. Issa Al- Ansari, University Rector.

PMU hosted the Seventh Coordination Meeting of the Private Universities and Colleges Rectors and Deans " at PMU campus On April 30, 2008.

PMU and EDUTECH jointly organized the "1st Education Technology Symposium & Exhibition 2008; a big success with attendees over 200 academic and technology professionals.

PMU hosted the First Annual KSAALT Conference (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Association of Language Teachers), on May 1. PMU Rector opened the conference and welcomed Dr. Haifa Reda Jamal Allail, Dean of Effat College as the keynote speaker.

Our male students elected 5 additional representatives among the 14 candidates. The rate of participation in the elections reached 50%. The new members joined the Student Council that is now formed of 10 student representatives, chaired by Ahmad Rashid. Congratulations and Good Luck!

Our female students enjoyed the beautiful Interior design works exhibited on the female campus. Congratulations to the 40 Interior Design students, and thanks to the ID Department for adding colors to our female campus!
