A Message From The Chair

Welcome to the Department of Interior Design at Prince Mohammad bin Fahd University (PMU), a program that stands out for its unique approach to interior design education.

Interior design, a discipline that influences over 90% of our time spent indoors, is crucial for promoting human wellness and environmental sustainability. Contrary to the common misconception that interior designers focus solely on surface aesthetics, the field is far more comprehensive. Today, it addresses significant macro-trends such as health and well-being, Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies, sustainability, urbanization, globalization, and resiliency. Interior designers are increasingly collaborating with interdisciplinary experts to develop evidence-based solutions that create humane and responsive environments. As we progress, the integration of smart building technologies, the Internet of Things (IoT), and robotics is becoming ubiquitous in interior spaces, shaping the future of building practices.

Situated in the vibrant city of Al Khobar in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), our interior design program offers a distinctive creative environment that serves as a hub for the design industry. We are proud to offer a program that fosters a multidisciplinary, culturally rich setting, empowering students to envision and create more responsible, sustainable, and humane environments. As part of the College of Architecture and Design (COAD), students are immersed in a collaborative culture, engaging with other disciplines and operating within a continuum of design and art.

At the Interior Design program, we deeply value cultural diversity, Islamic traditions, and the promotion of Saudi cultural and social values. This commitment is reflected in our curriculum, which emphasizes the significance of historical context, technological advancement, and creativity within the interior design profession.

The Interior Design program graduates will emerge as future leaders and professionals who will play a vital role in the sustainable community and economic development of the KSA and the surrounding Gulf countries. They will achieve this by designing interior environments that prioritize the public's health, safety, and well-being.

The Interior Design Program is dedicated to delivering exceptional education to female students, culminating in a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Interior Design. Our curriculum is aligned with American standards and has been developed following the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) requirements. While the program equips graduates to practice Interior Design within Saudi Arabia, it also prepares them to pursue advanced studies in graduate schools worldwide. The faculty of the Interior Design Department is deeply committed to the educational success of every student in the program. Each faculty member brings her unique expertise, encompassing theoretical and technical knowledge, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, teamwork, leadership, and practical experience. With all courses conducted in English, our faculty members are proficient in the language, ensuring effective communication and a high-quality learning experience.

We invite you to explore the diverse career opportunities offered by a degree in Interior Design. If you need any additional information, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
