Solar Panel Cleaning System

Project Overview

Saudi Arabia has been showing a strong interest in solar energy in recent years due to the high demand of energy. One of the 2030 Vision goals is reducing the oil consumption and concentrate on the renewable energy such as solar energy. Vision 2030 highlights renewable energy as a strategic priority for Saudi Arabian economy which would help in economic diversification. Saudi Arabia has one of the world’s highest solar irradiation in the world, estimated at approximately 2,200 thermal kWh of solar radiation per m2. The country is strategically located, in addition to the plentiful availability of empty stretches of desert that may accommodate infrastructure for solar power projects. On the other hand, its location makes it more vulnerable to dust causing drop of efficiency which is the most important problems facing the solar industry. This project aims to build a fast and efficient automatic mobile robot for cleaning, detecting, and monitoring solar panels by using a voltage and current sensors to measure them in a clean and normal weather. Next, program the robot to start cleaning in case of current drop. Putting in mind that cloud may affect the efficiency of the solar panel, we are using a sun radiation sensor.

Project Objectives

  1. Facilitate tracking, communication, and situational awareness in Solar Panels areas.
  2. Encourage sustainable life by using environmentally friendly robot.
  3. Encouraging local and industrial utilities to adopt the solar energy in their power systems.
  4. Ensure the safety and effective deployment of solar systems.
  5. Increase solar panels efficiency and performance.
