A productive meeting was held In Tokyo, Japan, on February 12, 2010 between the University of Tokyo and Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University. Several areas a of possible collaboration were indentified during the meeting, which was attended by President Prof. Dr. Junichi Hamada and Prof. Dr. Akihiko Tanaka, Executive Vice President, and Mr. Tatsuo Kishi, General Manager for International Affairs of the University of Tokyo. The PMU Rector, Dr. Issa Al Ansari, was joined by Dr. Nassar Shaikh, Vice Rector of Academic Affairs, Dr. Zlatica Kraljevic, Dean of Institutional Relations and Dr. Jamal Nayfeh, Dean of the College of Engineering.

The University of Tokyo was established in 1877 as the first national university in Japan. It has a faculty of over 4,000 and a total enrollment of about 29,000, evenly divided between undergraduate and graduate students. As of 2006 there were 2,269 international students, and over 2,700 foreign researchers come annually to the university for both short and extended visits. (http://www.u-tokyo.ac.jp/index_e.html)
