To promote the professional development of faculty.


The continued professional development of faculty within PMU is vital to the growth and prestige of the university and to the quality of instruction and services provided to its students.

In close collaboration with and assistance from the Professional Development Center, the Preparation Program along with each college unit within the university must take responsibility for professional growth of its faculty in areas such as:

  • Advice, assistance and objective diagnosis to support excellence in teaching
  • Insisting on best practices in pedagogy and classroom management
  • An understanding and implementation of outcomes based instruction
  • Providing critical leadership in information technology as it supports learning outcomes at the individual courses or program level
  • The achievement of the integrative competencies that PMU requires of all graduates
  • Promotion of research
  • Participation in conferences
  • Support of discipline oriented professional organizations
  • Participation in industry or state sponsored activities related to their discipline
  • Development of new programs associated with the discipline
  • Reporting of Professional Development activity involvement to be taken into consideration when reporting annual evaluations
