Purpose

The purpose of the Policy of appointment of Visiting Researcher is to promote and regulate the attracting to the campus individuals of special scholarly and/or professional interest and meritThe purpose of the Policy of appointment of Visiting Researcher is to promote and regulate the attracting to the campus individuals of special scholarly and/or professional interest and merit.


Statement

Visiting Researchers may teach, conduct research, advise and/or supervise students, assist in enhancing existing curriculum or in developing new courses, attend/host program meetings, attend and offer colloquia, and engage in other University or public service activities consistent with their appointments and with the mission of the University.


Procedure
Procedure :

A. Rank and Appointment:

1.     Academic Rank: Based on the academic rank presented at the time of appointment (evidence and document as per PMU Policy), Visiting Researchers may receive working titles of Visiting Professor, Visiting Associate Professor, or Visiting Assistant Professor to reflect their qualifications and professional experiences and to acknowledge the level of accomplishment achieved by the individual being considered for Visiting Researcher status.

2.     Appointment: Visiting researcher’s appointment will be full-time appointments for up to one academic year, renewable for another year by mutual agreement.

3.     Contract Term: An employment term commencing on the actual date of commencement of work at PMU for a period of one (1) year with renewal/extension by mutual agreement;

B. Compensation and Benefits

Visiting Researchers are entitled for the following benefits:

a.       A monthly basic salary.

b.      Furnished housing with basic household goods during the stay in the country;

c.       Medical insurance plan as per PMU policy;

d.      If applicable, a visa processing fee allowance maximum of SR 5,000;

e.       An economy class air ticket as per the passport as per PMU policy;

C. Duties and Responsibilities

a.       To publish an agreed number of research papers in collaboration and affiliation with the Department in charge in SCOPUS or ISI-Clarivate Analytics indexed journals, to do theoretical and experimental research, and to teach 3 to 6 credit hours as per the need in the relevant College;

b.      To be available on campus for a minimum of eight (8) weeks per year in accordance with schedule agreed with the Department;

D. Execution and Operations

1.   The Employer will review and assess the Employee’s research activities after the first semester of commencing work at PMU.

2.   The respective College Chair/Dean and the Dean of Graduate Studies & Research will evaluate and confirm the Visiting Researcher’s assigned work and will provide feedback to the Financial Affairs Department on a monthly basis for salary purposes.

3.   The compensation will be paid to the Visiting Researcher’s international or local bank account, after receiving the monthly feedback from the Deanship of Research.
