Purpose

To regulate overload assignments for Faculty (Professors, Associate/Assistant Professors, Lecturers and Instructors).


Statement

In deciding Faculty teaching overload assignments and compensation, the following shall apply:

1.      3 credit hours in the evening is equivalent to 4 credit hours in daytime in terms of load and overload for faculty teaching in the day and evening in the same semester. Pro-rata applies only when a faculty is teaching daytime and evening courses in the same day with cutoff time for evening starting at 4:00 PM. Note: Classes that start prior to 4:00 PM and end after 4:00PM will not be included in the pro-rata.

2.      Every Instructional hour is counted as a credit hour and every 2 lab/design lab hours is counted as one credit hour. Other variations are pro-rated accordingly.

3.      The maximum overload per faculty is 6 credit hours not counting the evening pro-rata. The maximum overload per faculty is 9 credit hours to include the evening pro-rata.

4.      PREP Instructors can have a maximum of 5 contact hours not including the evening pro-rata. The maximum overload of PREP instructors is 8 contact hours including the evening pro-rata. Any hour beyond the maximums will not be compensated unless President’s pre-approval is obtained.

5.      An Administrator will not receive any overload pay if teaching overload unless the credit hours exceed the regular load for his/her academic rank, this is due to the fact that any administrator at PMU is not allowed to combine two benefits, i.e. stipend and overload, two stipends, contractual administrative position with overload or stipend, etc. The overload hours must be after 4:00 PM in order to be compensated.

6.      All overload assignments should have the pre-approval of the President and comply with the overload procedure.


Procedure
Procedure :

The attached Faculty Overload Request Form is to be used in requesting and approving overloads. The following are steps to be followed:

  1. The College Dean/Prep. Program Director submits the completed faculty overload request form to the Registrar’s Office.
  2. The Registrar verify the request and submit it to the Teaching Load and Overload Review Committee chaired by the Rector.
  3. The Committee takes the decision regarding approval/rejection of the overload request.
