About Chemical Engineering

The breadth of scientific and technical knowledge inherent in the chemical engineering profession has made someone describe the chemical engineer as the “Universal Engineer”. Chemical Engineers are versatile and can able to handle a wide range of technical problems. All engineers employ mathematics, physics and engineering art to overcome technical problems in a safe and economical. Yet, it was chemical engineer alone that draws vast and powerful science of chemistry to solve a wide range of technical problems. Chemical engineering program at PMU comprises of core courses that emphasis on fundamentals, elective courses to broaden the knowledge domain, laboratory work with state of art facilities to get hands-on practical experience and summer internship for real time industrial exposure.

The knowledge base for chemical engineers start from the basic understanding of chemical engineering principles with a strong chemistry background; material and energy balance calculations; thermodynamics principles; momentum, heat and mass transfer principles; mechanical separation principles; manufacturing process flow diagrams; reaction engineering principles, process instrumentation & control principles, process equipment and plant design principles; health & safety management principles; management and economics. In addition to this, the knowledge base is extended to the complimentary areas like modeling and simulation principles; optimization principles; environmental engineering principles; corrosion engineering principles; nanotechnology etc.

This learning experience ensures our graduates equally capable for industrial careers and pursuing higher degrees. The chemical engineering program at PMU is designed to be accredited by ABET and NCAAA accreditation bodies.
